Bulldog girls struggle early, fall 4-0

BILLINGS — It was déjà vu all over again for the Butte High girls’ soccer team on Saturday.

The Bulldogs fell behind early, then finished strong against the Billings Senior Broncs. The Bulldogs, though, couldn’t overcome the slow start and fell 4-0 in the Eastern AA match.

“We gave up three goals in the first 12 minutes,” Butte High coach Kevin Petritz said. “We’ve got to figure out some way to do something to get them to come out at the opening whistle.”

Alexa Torbert assisted a Bailly Woodring goal before scoring a pair of goals — off assists by Tiffani Finley and Saydee Preston — to build the 3-0 lead.

Torbert assisted an Alysia Martinez goal in the 75th minute.

“We had good looks today,” Petritz said. “We had a free kick in the box.”

Maria Michelotti made seven saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

“Maria was great at goal,” Petritz said. “Justyce Connole played really well, and freshman Rylee Gonzales showed a lot of great promise today. She got her first varsity minutes.”
