The thrill of playing under the lights at Bulldog Memorial Stadium wasn’t quite enough for the Bulldog Girls’ soccer team to beat Missoula Sentinel but they showed great teamwork and confidence, leaving everything they had on the field tonight.
Every girl on Butte’s team had a hand in holding the Spartans to 4 goals, 3 less than they gave up the last time they met Sentinel. Bulldog forwards Kenzie Jaksha, Kali Burke, HazLynn Hoffman and Chloe Salusso offered great support and hounded Sentinel’s back line.
In the midfield, Hannah Carpenter, Autumn Silk, Elli Quist, Lydia Revenaugh and Jessie LaPier challenged everything they could, winning many balls and creating chances. Showing excellent effort, Carpenter got in on a breakaway and drilled the shot a few feet wide of the goal. Sentinel’s defense, a bit shaken by Carpenter’s play, recovered just in time to save a goal.
Butte’s defenders Hayla Hoffman, Kierra Case, Haley Carver, Aydin Gonzales, Jozi Daugherty, Avery Warden, Brooklyn Holms and Nevaeh Cannon-Kelly worked hard from beginning to end and covered well, never giving up on plays and fighting for every ball.
Goalie, Kaylee LaPier was great in goal again, challenging successfully on several through balls. She positioned herself well all night and distributed the ball with punts all game.
At the end of the game Sentinel left with the win 4 – 0.
Coach Steve Shahan, very excited about the way the girls played, said, “The effort and teamwork we showed tonight was our best of the season and I couldn’t be more proud of these girls!”
The Bulldog girls have some time to recover and prepare for their last two regular season home games. The girls will meet the Glacier Wolfpack at Bulldog Memorial Stadium on Thursday, October 13th. Game starts at 2:00PM.
