GREAT FALLS — Bozeman ran away with the team title at the girls-only Optimist Invitational Friday at Memorial Stadium.
The Hawks chalked up 113 team points for the victory. Billings West placed second at 87, and Helena Capital took third at 61.5. Missoula Sentinel, Helena High and Missoula Hellgate followed at 61, 60 and 59. (Complete results)
Butte High placed 12th with 24 points. All 14 Class AA teams competed in the meet.
The Bulldogs saw some promising individual performances, led by sophomore Anna Trudnowski, freshman Mollee Conlan and the relay teams.
Trudnowski placed third in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3 inches. She also took seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.
Conan placed fourth in the 100 meters, crossing in 13.77 seconds.
The Bulldogs took fourth in the 1,600-meter relay and sixth in the 400 relay
Christiana Beierle, Ally Cleverly, Trudnowski and Hailey Nielson ran the long relay for the Bulldogs. Gabbie Parini, Cleverly and Taylinn and Braleigh Garrett ran the short relay.
Cleverly posted a pair of top-10 finishes, taking ninth in the 400 and 10th in the 200. Parini jumped 16-7 for sixth place in the long jump. That went a long with a 14th-place showing in the 200.
Hailey Herron took 10th in the discus for Butte High. She also took 15th in the shot put.
Bulldog Gabby Haberman posted a personal best by clearing 9 feet to take 11th in the pole vault. Beierle took 13th in the event with a mark of 8-6.
Butte’s Josie Klapan posted a 13th place in the javelin, McKenna Kennis took 13th in the long jump, and Madalynn Rhodes placed 15th in the javelin. Bulldog teammates Trinity Smelich and Kira Mortensen tied for 15th in the high jump.
Next up on the Butte High schedule is Tuesday’s Top 10 Meet in Missoula. The Bulldogs will also compete in Butte Central’s John Tomich Invitational Saturday, April 27.
