Bulldog girls rally back to top Beavers in Dillon

DILLON — A strong fourth quarter lifted Butte High’s girls’ basketball team to a season-opening victory Tuesday night.

Butte High outscored Dillon 19-8 over the 8 minutes to beat Dillon 53-49 in a non-conference tilt at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs overcame a pair of eight-point deficits in the second half in victory.

Senior Haley Herron tossed 17 points to lead the way. She also reached double figures in rebounds. Classmate Makenna Carpenter sank three 3-poiners and scored 15 points. Carpenter hit two threes and scored eight points in the final frame.

In all, seven different Bulldogs scored points. McCaul McCarthy, who drew a key charging foul, tossed in six points off the bench. Trisha Ericson scored five points, while MacKenzie Tutty and Brooke McGrath each tossed in four, and Grace McGrath scored two.

Kodie Hoagland, Tylar Clary and Ashley Olson also contributed for the Bulldogs.

Josey Jones scored 17 points to pace the Beavers, who fell to 2-1. Ainsley Shipman scored 12 points. Dillon also got six points from Madalyn Shipman, five from Tylia DeJohn and Kylee Pittman and two from Abby Brevig and Kassidy Broere.

Butte High will play its home opener Thursday against Belgrade at the Richardson Gym.
