Bulldog girls place fourth in Missoula pool

MISSOULA — Swimming on back-to-back days was no problem for Butte High’s swimming teams.

One day after hosting the Butte High January Splash, the Bulldog girls placed fourth at the Missoula Invitational, missing third place by a single point. Butte High’s boys placed eighth out of 13 teams. (Results)

Bozeman won the girls’ title with 438 points. Missoula Hellgate followed with 365, and Billings Central took third with 185. Butte High scored 184.

Bozeman’s boys won with 453 points. Missoula Sentinel was second at 354, followed by Whitefish at 267.5. Butte High scored 111 points.

On the girls’ side, Catherine Russo won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly. She also swam a leg with teammates Anna Trudnowski, Kallie Hossack and Danika Murphy to win the 200 freestyle relay.

The 200 medley relay team of Catherine Russo, Isabel Russo, Anna Trudnowski and Kallie Hossack took fifth.

Hossack placed fifth in the 100 freestyle, shaving more than a second and a half off her best time. She also finished ninth in the 200 freestyle.

Murphy finished 11th in the 100 freestyle.

On the boys’ side, Evan Zundle, Ladd Hutchinson, Max Holdsworth and Thad Holdsworth swam to sixth place in the 200 medley relay.

Max Holdsworth finished fourth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 50 freestyle. Thad Holdsworth took fifth in the 100 free and eighth in the 200 free.

Zundel shaved almost 2 seconds off his best time to place 10th in the 100 backstroke. Hutchinson finished 12th in the breaststroke.
