Bulldog girls grab lead at Old Works

ANACONDA — The Butte High girls’ golf team finds itself in familiar territory.

Winners of tournaments the last two weeks, the Bulldogs grabbed the Day 1 lead of the Anaconda-Butte Invitational tournament Thursday at the Old Works. Friday’s final round starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Butte Country Club.

Butte High shot a 335 on the course Jack Nicklaus built Thursday, taking a five-shot lead over second-place Missoula Hellgate. Whitefish is a distant third at 377.

Bulldog senior Hailey Hoagland once again led Butte High. She shot a 77 and is one shot behind leader Katie Wills of Hellgate in the individual race.

Hellgate’s Maddie Trent is third at 79, while Butte junior Shealyn Hafer and Glacier’s Teigan Avery are tied for fourth at 81.

Bulldog junior Hailey Ogolin carded an 84 and is tied for sixth with Bozeman’s Bridget Beyer and Whitefish’s Erin Tabish.

Anaconda’s Ali Huber sits in ninth at 88, while Butte High senior Megan Ingersoll is two shots out of the top 10 at 93.

Bozeman shot a 306 to take the boys’ team lead. The Hawks are three shots ahead of Kalispell Glacier. Hellgate is third at 316, followed by Missoula Sentinel at 322, Anaconda at 337 and Butte High at 343.

Bozeman’s Kyle Powell shot a 71 and holds a three-shot lead over Sentinel’s Logan Becker and Glacier’s Cody Sherrill.

Sophomores Trey Hoagland and Will Kilmer each shot an 84 to lead the Bulldogs. Levin Mullaney shot an 86 for Butte High, while Houston Green shot an 88 and Eric Fogarty shot a 91.

Tucker Thatcher’s 89 paced Butte High’s JV team, while Tryston Frey shot a 91 to lead Butte Central.

Anaconda’s Jackson Wagner is tied for fifth at 76, three shots better than Copperhead Caleb Stetzner.
