Bulldog Cross Country Runs Tough

The Butte High bulldogs ran solid races in East Helena High School’s first ever cross country race.  The boys and girls raced against some of the toughest teams in the Class A across the state.

“I was impressed by how we raced today.  The varsity boys and JV boys ran as strong as I have ever seen them. There was a toughness today that I saw coming over the last two weeks.” Coach Wadas commented, “Today the guys were assertive and determined and it was awesome to see!”

The varsity team was lead by Ladd Hutchinson who finished 2nd overall .  He was followed by an improving, Camden Houchin, Ryan Tomich, Cohen Grunhuvd, Kaden Hennessey, Max Dawson , and Levi Wiltsie.

The JV boys were lead by Corwin Hunter,  Blair Hamry, Derrick Fournier, Ryan Hanson and Caleb Stapley who were among the top runners in the race.  Corwin finished 2nd overall.

“The girls display toughness too,” Wadas added.  Freshman Lexa Thompson lead the girls again and was followed by Octavia Breeton, Samantha Smith, Kayleen Noctor, Arika Dolence, and Olivia Thurmond.  Samantha and Arika made their varsity debut today and it worked out nicely for them.

Lorna Hunter ran the JV race and performed admirably in just her 3rd race at 5k ever!

“I let the teams know that the times today are irrelevant as the course was about a 1/4 mile long.  The important thing is we battled and worked our butts off for each other.  The next few weeks are critical to how our season ends.  I am hopeful that we can use this to continue ramping up our training and finish the year on a solid note.”

Official times for the race were not available and will be added when they are.
