Bulldog Boys Soccer Duplicates Football Win

The Butte High boys soccer team traveled to Missoula to play a match Saturday against Big Sky. Pulling from the momentum of the Bulldog football team from Friday night’s big Homecoming, Butte High followed suit and won 5-0.

Although the Eagles took the first shot of the game, the Bulldogs used their speed and accurate shooting to build a commanding 3-0 lead only 14 minutes into the game. The Bulldogs scored 3 goals with only 4 shots during this time period (Zane Fredlund fed Cameron Tobiness, Riley Doyle fed Jack Luoma, and Mack Williams fed Boyd Dewitt).

The Bulldogs controlled possession throughout the game and added a 4th goal when Jack Luoma assisted Boyd Dewitt 2 minutes before halftime. Big Sky had 3 good chances to score in the first half but couldn’t find the net.

James Hadley crossed the ball through the air to the Bulldogs final goal of the game–a Dewitt header. The hat trick for Boyd Dewitt was a blessing for the Bulldogs in his first game back following a concussion.

Coach Cody Carpenter shared, “Our game plan for this match worked well, and I am very proud of the total team victory. Riley Doyle and Mack Williams did a great job today distributing the ball and controlling the mid-field. Defenders Reid Whitlock, Bridger Schutte, and Cooper McKee had shots on goal because of our ball possession and ability to push into the Eagle defense.”

For the first time this entire season, Butte High had their entire varsity roster (13 players) for this game. Goalkeeper Joe Schrader preserved the shutout after kicking off 9 times for the football team Friday night.

Butte High hosts Helena High at 3 pm on Tuesday.
