Bulldog boys show progress, fall to Bruins

HELENA — Butte High’s soccer team was singing together on the bus ride home Thursday night.

The Bulldogs did not pick up a win. Rather, Butte High’s young squad fell 9-0 to Helena Capital in a Western AA matchup.

Butte High, though, showed a lot to Butte High’s coaching staff and beyond as they fell to 0-6 on the season.

“The refs even commented after the game how much better our passing was this game than earlier this season,” Butte High first-year coach Cody Carpenter said. “I like our progress.”

Carpenter said the Bulldogs made the Bruins work for every goal.

“I felt that we played our best game this season together as a team,” Carpenter said. “I am very proud of the boys’ attitude and effort despite another lopsided loss. I commend the leadership of Logan (Roepe), Kyler (Kukay), Christian (Sherman), Carson (Barry), Isen (Padbury), Colton (Case), Joe P (Philip) and James (Dare) displayed throughout the match.”

Butte High will play host to Helena High Saturday. The Bulldog boys will play at noon, following the girls’ 10 a.m. match.
