Bulldog boys move forward in win over Eagles

MISSOULA — Butte High’s boys’ soccer team was probably singing some Rocky songs on the bus home Saturday.

The Bulldogs bounced back from Thursday’s loss to Missoula Hellgate with a 3-0 Western AA victory over Missoula Big Sky that had Butte High coach Cody Carpenter thinking of the Italian Stallion.

“I thought of the Rocky Balboa quote, “It’s not about how hard you can hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward,’ as we regrouped and responded to our Hellgate loss,” Carpenter said. “I’m so proud of our team effort today. We emphasized focus, family, and fun for this game and it worked.”

Jack Luoma had a hand in two Butte High goals in the win. The sophomore scored on a penalty kick and fed Boyd Dewitt for a goal. Riley Doyle found the back of the net on a Cameron Tobiness corner kick.

The Bulldogs only had one health sub while going up against a team with seven subs.

“Our captains Joe Phillip and Riley Doyle controlled the midfield with support from Cooper McKee and Cameron Tobiness,” Carpenter said. “We look forward to traveling to Helena Capital on Tuesday.”
