Bulldog boys go down fighting in Helena

HELENA — Butte High’s boys’ soccer team closed out the regular season Thursday, falling 8-0 to Helena High in a hard-fought game played in extremely windy condition.

“The Bengals had to work for every goal and their coaching staff noted how hard our team played to the very end,” Butte High coach Cody Carpenter said. “Logan Roepe made some incredible saves in goal, including a runaway umbrella from one the fans.”

Carpenter said the Bulldogs passed the ball well and played well as a team. The coach pointed to the play of Colton Case, Carson Barry and Joe Phillip in the midfield, along with Kyler Kukay and Christian Sherman on defense.

“We had some shots on their goal but could never find the net,” Carpenter said.

The Bulldogs will head to Missoula Saturday to take on top-seeded Missoula Hellgate in a playoff game.
