FLORENCE — The Bitterroot Bucs swept a non-conference doubleheader with the Butte Miners Sunday.
Bitterroot won the opener 9-2 before completing the sweep with a 3-1 victory. The Miners fell to 0-4 on their first weekend of the season.
Butte will hit the road to take on the Bitterroot Red Sox next Saturday. The next day, the Miners will play their home opener, taking on the Missoula Maverick’s A at 3 Legends Stadium.

Patrick Duchen singled in two runs to break open a 2-all tie in the bottom of the fifth to put the Bucs up for good.
Bitterroot scored three runs in the frame before adding four more in the sixth. That came after the Miners scored two runs on bases-loaded walks by Sean Ossello and Egan Lester to tie the game in the top of the fifth.
Andrew Scully homered to lead the Buc’s nine-hit attack. Troy Larson pitched six innings, striking out nine, in the win.
Kevin Donaldson hit a double and a single for Butte. Ossello also singled.

The Miners outhit the Bucs 5-4 in the second game. The Bucs, though, got the last laugh on the scoreboard.
Kenley Leary, who pitched well in the Game 1 loss, belted two doubles from the leadoff spot for the Miners. Lester hit two singles, and Eric Hart added one.
Ethan “Easy” Cunningham pitched five innings, striking out four in the loss. Aidan Lee also worked an inning on the bump for Butte.1 comment
