Bruins claw Bison in AA girls’ tilt

Eleven Helena Capital players scored points as the Bruins romped to a 55-30 victory over Great Falls High Thursday in the first round of the state Class AA high school girls’ basketball tournament in the Butte Civic Center.

Great Falls High led early and held an 8-7 edge after one quarter. However, Capital found its shooting range and built a 21-11 command at intermission and added to it through the last two quarters.

Emily Kidder was the Bruins’ only double-figure scorer as she caged 12 points. Paige Bartsch and Nicole Ames were next high with eight apiece. Dani Bartsch led Capital’s 28-16 domination in rebounds by taking down nine caroms. The win put the Bruins’ record at 20-2 as they gear up to play crosstown rival Helena High in Friday’s 8 p.m. semifinal.

Great Falls High was led by Jorgie Hawthorne with six points. The Bulldogs, 8-15, will go against Butte High at 1:30 on Friday in a loser-out game.
