Bruins battle past Eagles to win Western AA boys

HELENA — Brayden Koch led the way with 31 points Saturday night, and Helena Capital captured the Western AA Divisional title with a 64-60 win over upset-minded Missoula Big Sky at the Carroll College P.E. Center. (Stats)

The future Carroll College Fighting Saint hit four 3-pointers and made 9 of 11 free throws for the Bruins (19-2), who trailed 28-22 at halftime. Capital outscored the Eagles 19-11 in the third quarter.

Hayden Opitz and Jacob Curry each scored 11 points for Capital. Nick Michelotti scored eight, and Trysten Mooney tossed in three.

Tre Reed scored 13 points to lead three Eagles in double figures scoring Caden Bateman tosse din 12, and Louis Sanders scored 10.

Big Sky heads to the State tournament at 11-10.
