Brophy, BC letter winners honored

Butte Central held its annual M Club dinner on Friday night at the Maroon Activities Center prior to their football game against Livingston.

The M Club dinner honors all former letter winners at Butte Central in all sports for both boys and girls.

Each year the M Club spotlights various Butte Central teams of the past. This year the teams being honored were the 1953, 1973, 1983 and 1993 football teams, 1973 boys’ cross country team, 1973 and 1983 wrestling teams and the 1983 girls’ track teams.

In addition, the M Club gives out a special award to an alumni who gives back to the school and the athletic department. This year the winner of the M Club award was Bernie Brophy, a 1971 graduate at Butte Central.

Brophy, a former letter winner in football, basketball and track, was a key member on the committee to help build the Maroon Activities Center. He was also instrumental in the construction of the “Swede’s Point of View” monument and a wall of granite in the lobby area that welcomes visitors to the Maroon Activities Center.

The highlight of the night for the M Club dinner is a visit to the locker room prior to the football team leaving for Alumni Coliseum. This year the guest speaker in the locker room was former Butte Central quarterback, Mark Schulte. He led the Maroons to 28 straight wins and three state titles from 1971-73. Schulte is a member of the Butte Sports Hall of Fame. 2 comments
