Broncs trip up Maroons

BC boys will host play-in game Monday

FRENCHTOWN — Butte Central’s boys’ basketball team could not overcome a cold first half Saturday, and the Maroons fell 44-39 in a Southwestern A title with Frenchtown.

The loss means that the defending Class A state champion Maroons (9-6 overall, 5-5 conference) will finish third in the regular season. BC will host Stevensville in a 6 p.m. Western A Divisional play-in game Monday at the Maroon Activities Center.

The win gives Frenchtown second place and an automatic berth in the divisional tournament, which starts Thursday in Butte.

Brandon Finley and Devin Shelton each scored 11 points to lead the Broncs (11-5, 6-4), led 20-14 at halftime. Central battled back to tie the game at 25 at the end of three quarters, but the Broncs rolled in the fourth for the win.

Wyatt Hays added eight points in the win, and Jeff Jacobs tossed in six.

Dougie Peoples scored 18 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to lead the Maroons.

Central also got six points from Kyle Holter, three from Egan Lester and two apiece from Drew Badovinac, Bryan Holland and Konnor Pochervina.
