Butte Central boys’ basketball coach Brodie Kelly will join some exclusive company Wednesday night.

Three months after leading the Maroons to their first Class A State title in 28 years, Kelly will join the Coach’s Corner at Metal’s Sports Bar & Grill. His plaque will hang on the wall alongside more than 70 legendary coaches with ties to the Mining City.

Each coach in the Coach’s Corner has won a state title or a college conference or national title.

Kelly will sign his plaque Wednesday during an appearance on KBOW Overtime from 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the state champion Maroons will also be on hand.

The last time the Maroons won a state crown, Kelly was a key player on coach Tom Berg’s 1992 team that brought home the title from Billings. The 2020 Maroons also returned from Billings with a championship, joining the 1992 team with a 20-4 record.

In 16 seasons at the helm of the Butte Central boys’ basketball team, Kelly has guided the Maroons to a 256-126 overall record. His teams are 237-103 against Class A competition and 106-27 at the Maroon Activities Center.

Kelly has led the Maroons to the State tournament 14 times. His Maroons reached the semifinals 10 times, advancing to the title game three times.

Only Harry “Swede” Dahlberg has won more games as a high school boys’ basketball coach in the Mining City than Kelly. Dahlberg went 407-298-1 in 29 seasons with Butte High.

After a standout career in football and basketball at Butte Central, Kelly went on to play basketball for coach Rich Dessing at Montana Tech, where he was part of a Frontier Conference championship in 1998. That 1998 team is one of just two Oredigger teams to ever play in the NAIA National Tournament.

Kelly will join Butte Central coaches Anthony Favero, Bob Petrino, Ed Simonich, Ed Roy, Jerry Downey, Huz Jensen, Jim Sweeney, John Frankino, John Thatcher, Meg Murphy, Mike Thompson, Pat Prednergast, Ron “Swede” Kenison, Rick Sparks, Brother Robert Satterthwaite, Vince Kelly and Berg in the Coach’s Corner.

Overtime is broadcast live each Wednesday from the Coach’s Corner. The show is hosted Paul Panisko and feature’s Bill Foley of Butte Sports. Listen live at 550 AM, 101.5 FM or online at
