RUKA, Finland — Brad Wilson placed 18th overall and second among Americans Friday as the World Cup season for men’s moguls in freestyle skiing began.

The winner was Canadian legend Mikael Kingsbury while Benjamin Cavet of France was second and 18-year-old Walter Wallberg of Sweden third.

Wilson competed in the men’s moguls at the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympics as a member of Team USA and led the American team into this World Cup campaign.

Casey Andringa of the United States placed ninth on Friday and was the only American to finish ahead of Wilson in the standings.

Other American finishers were Dylan Walczyk 19th, Jack Kariotis 25th, Hunter Bailey 31st, Jesse Andringa 43rd and Emerson 48th.

Both Wilson and his older brother Bryon Wilson, a mogulist who captured the 2010 Winter Olympics Bronze Medal, are from Butte.

Perrine Laffont of France won the women’s race Friday and was joined on the podium by runnerup Yulia Galysheva of Kazakhstan and Tess Johnson of the United States, third.

The mogulists will head to Asia for their next stop, competing at Thaiwoo, China next weekend.
