Bock, Machinal rake in honors

Montana Tech made it a clean sweep this afternoon.

Oredigger basketball players Bryan Bock and Mandy Machinal were named Frontier Conference Players of the Week, the league announced.

Bock was named the men’s top player, while Machinal was named the best women’s player of the week.

Bock, a 6-foot-3 junior guard from Rialto, Calif., scored 40 points to lead the Orediggers to an 80-71 win at Dickinson State. Bock shot 15 for 21 from the field, including a 7-for-9 effort from 3-point land. Bock also grabbed four rebounds, dished out five assists and collected three steals.

Bock said he dedicated the game to his high school coach Steve Johnson. Johnson and Bock won a California Division II High School Championship together. On Jan. 21, Johnson was shot in an attempted robbery in San Bernardino, Calif. He drove himself to the police department and from there was taken to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Machinal, a 5-7 sophomore guard from Richland, Wash., scored 28 points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out one assist and collected one steal to help the Orediggers beat the Blue Hawks 86-78.

Machinal hit on 8 of 14 shots, including 4 of 10 from long range. She was 8 for 8 from the free throw line.

Montana Tech’s men’s and women’s teams start a four game home stand this weekend. Tech takes on MSU-Northern and Lewis-Clark State College this weekend.
