Bobcats excel in the classroom

BOZEMAN — The last moments of 2012 brought good news in Bobcat athletics, when Montana State student-athletes finished the fall semester with a 3.15 cumulative team grade point average (out of 4.0).

That accomplishment, the 22nd consecutive semester with a GPA over 3.0, was punctuated by 212 of the school’s 362 student-athletes compiling a GPA or better and 49 compiling grades of all A’s or A-minus. Of all Bobcat student-athletes, 114 landed on either the President’s List (4.0 semester GPA) or Dean’s List (GPA between 3.5 and 3.99).

Montana State’s Nordic ski squad led the school’s varsity athletic teams with a 3.43 GPA, while women’s tennis (3.40) and alpine ski (3.33) were close behind. Of Bobcat Athletics’ 14 varsity squads (combining indoor and outdoor track programs, and featuring the spirit squad), 11 posted team GPAs of better than 3.0.

Among the Bobcat student-athletes posting all A’s and A-minus grades in the fall were 2012 Buck Buchanan Award winner and CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Caleb Schreibeis, and engineering student.
