Blue Devils top Maroons in girls’ play-in game

CORVALLIS — The 2019-20 season has come to an end for the Butte Central girls’ basketball team.

The red-hot Corvallis Blue Devils knocked off the Maroons 58-32 in the Southwestern A play-in game Monday night. Corvallis’ seventh straight win sends the Blue Devils to the Western A Divisional tournament, which starts Thursday in Ronan.

Corvallis (13-6) will open against Columbia Falls at 12:30 p.m. The young Maroons close the season at 1-18, missing the divisional tournament for the first time.

Seniors Hannah Hutchinson and Isabel Evans combined to score 29 points for the Blue Devils. Hutchinson sank three 3-pointers and scored 15 points, while the 6-foot-4 Evans tossed in 14. Junior Brooke Powell scored nine points.

The Blue Devils led 3-0 after the first quarter and 20-10 at halftime. Corvallis extended the lead to 45-25 after three quarters.

Junior Delaney Hasquet scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half to lead the Maroons. Sophomore Sofee Thatcher scored 10 points for the Maroons, who got five points form senior Emma Keeley, two from junior Avery Kelly and one from sophomore Brenna Foley.

Juniors Amira Bolton, Taylor Harrington, Maddie Kump, senior Breann Williamson, sophomore Payton Hartwick and freshman Brooke Badovinac also played for the Maroons.
