Binford announces MSU women’s hoops slate

BOZEMAN — Tricia Binford, who enters her tenth season at the helm of the Montana State women’s basketball program this season, announced the Bobcats’ 2014-15 schedule, Monday afternoon.

The Bobcats, who posted a 15-15 overall mark and a 10-10 Big Sky Conference slate last winter, will play an eleven-game non-conference schedule against teams from the Pac-12, West Coast, Mountain West, Western Athletic and Big West Conferences, as well as an 18-game league ledger.

“I think it’s a pretty exciting preseason schedule for our team,” Binford said. “We will also have a new look within the Big Sky with the addition of Idaho and going to an 18-game schedule. With nine returners and six newcomers this schedule will prepare us for a very competitive conference season.”

MSU will open its 2014-15 campaign with a pair of exhibition games against Carroll College, Nov. 1, and Minot State, Nov. 9.

The Bobcats will open its regular-season play on the road at Binford’s alma mater, Boise State, on Nov. 14. The trip will conclude at Cal State Fullerton, 16.

Montana State opens its home season hosting West Coast power Gonzaga on Nov. 21. The Zags have made six consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. MSU will finish the weekend hosting Seattle U on Nov. 23.

MSU will close out November in southern California. The Bobcats will meet San Diego on Nov. 25, before competing in the Cal State Northridge tournament Nov. 28-29. Also competing in the tournament will be Texas Southern and IUPUI.

The Bobcats will see four games in December as it works around finals week at MSU. Three games will be played in Worthington Arena, including Great Falls, Dec. 4, Wyoming, Dec. 6, and MSU Billings, Dec. 15.

Montana State will complete non-conference play at Washington State prior to the Christmas break on Dec. 20 in Pullman. WSU is directed by long-time women’s basketball coach June Daugherty, who was Binford’s mentor at Boise State.

The Bobcats will open Big Sky action on Jan. 1 at North Dakota. MSU’s first league home contest will be Jan. 8 against Idaho State. The annual ‘Cat-Griz Brawl of the Wild series will move back to its double-header setup along with the men’s game in the same city on the same day- Jan. 17 in Missoula and March 7 in Bozeman.
