Bighorns down Cobras to stay unbeaten

HELENA — The first-place Helena Bighorns kept their record unblemished Friday night.

Five Helena players scored goals, and the Bighorns skated to a 5-2 NA3HL Frontier Division victory at the Helena Ice Arena. (Stats)

The victory lifts the Helena record to 26-0-0 on the season.

Erik Gibboney and Tylor Green scored in the first period, and the Bighorns never trailed. Andrew MacCallum and Nick Cofer extended the lead to 4-9 in the second.

Butte’s Caelin Chinery scored a goal assisted by Ross Biggerstaff and Tamer Billman late in the second. Chinery scored again — this time off assists from David Nanny and Biggerstaff — to cut the lead to 4-2.

Helena’s Samuel Feamster, though, killed any Butte comeback hopes with a goal to make it 5-2.

Helena outshot Butte 75-26 in the victory. Netminder Dylan Romanow turned away 24 shots in the win.

The Cobras (10-17-2) will head to Blaine, Minnesota for the three-day NA3HL Showcase, which begins Monday.
