Bighorns deny Cobras

The Helena Bighorns scored four goals in the second period Thursday night to pull away for a 6-1 victory over the Butte Cobras at the Butte Community Ice Rink. (Stats)

The barrage in the second period came after Tyson Stovin found the back of the net for an unassisted goal to tie the game at 11 minutes, 23 seconds into the first period. Helena led after Nicholas Pederson scored 50 seconds into the game.

Ian McIntosh gave the Bighorns the lead for good with a goal 5:27 into the second period.

Pedersen led the way with two goals for the first-place Bighorns. Justin Sullivan and Ricards Groskops each added a goa in the win.

Helena outshot Butte 63-18. Butte goalie Karl Zodda saved 57 shots in the loss.

The Cobras will head to Blaine, Minnesota, for a tournament starting Sunday. They open against the Evansville Jr. Thunderbolts.
