The Helena Capital Bruins hosted the Butte High Bulldogs on a soggy morning in Helena. Butte High, once again, started the game without any varsity subs due to various reasons. The Bulldogs could not compete with the size, strength, and ball control of the Bruins. Capital won 7-1.
Capital led the game 5-0 at the half but Butte scored on Jack Luoma goal from Boyd Dewitt 10 minutes into the 2nd half. The game went back and forth with both teams having chances to score until Capital put 2 more goals in with less than 5 minutes.
“Given the fact that we didn’t even have enough boys for a JV game today, I am happy with the effort that our team put forth against such a strong program” stated Coach Cody Carpenter.
“Led by our midfielders Riley Doyle and Mack Williams, we had some great passing sequences but were not as consistent as Capital so they had the ball more and, therefore, many more chances to score.”
“Even though we let 7 goals through, I liked how tough our defense played to the end in the muddy conditions. Joe Schrader had some great saves in goal and Zane Fredlund, Bridger Schutte, Cooper McKee, and Eddie Kazmierczak played good as a unit on our back line.”
“Capital had to work hard for their goals. Their height and strength helped them to dominate the balls through the air. We played two 8th graders today–at Aiden Maesar’s height, it looked like he could run right through some of their legs!”
Butte High looks forward to hosting the Sentinel Spartans in Bulldog Memorial Stadium on Tuesday.
