GDEN, Utah — The Big Sky Conference has selected its men’s basketball Players of the Week for games played from Nov. 13-19. Sacramento State’s Dylan Garrity and Northern Arizona’s DeWayne Russell shared the honor.
Garrity, a 6-2 sophomore point guard from Huntington Beach, Calif., averaged 20 points, six assists, and one steal per game as the Hornets picked up victories over Cal State Bakersfield and Utah. He shot 69.2 percent from the field, 62.5 percent from 3-point range, and 94.4 percent from the free-throw line.
Garrity scored a career-high 21 points in an 85-67 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Nov. 14. He also dished out seven assists, and went 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.
In a 74-71 win over Utah of the Pac-12 on Nov. 16, Garrity scored 19 points with five assists, and two steals. He scored 11 of his 19 points in the final 9:07 to spark a 29-13 run. He hit a jumper with 1:29 remaining in the game to give Sacramento State its first lead in 29 minutes of game clock.
Russell, a 5-11 true freshman guard from Peoria, Ariz., scored a career-high 25 points as Northern Arizona snapped its 18-game losing streak with an 85-82 road win over UC Davis.
Russell made 8-of-12 shots from the floor, was 5-of-8 from 3-point range, and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. He also had six assists, four rebounds and two steals.
