Big fourth quarter lifts Western women to win

DILLON — Montana Western’s women’s basketball team outscored Lewis-Clark State 20-9 in the fourth quarter Thursday night, and the Bulldogs knocked off the Warriors 54-50 for a Frontier Conference victory at the Straugh Gymnasium. (Stats)

Savanna Bignell scored 10 points to lead the balanced Bulldog attack. Shannon Worster and Jennie Weber each scored nine points in the win. Weber hit three of Western’s 10 3-pointers on the night.

Western (9-5, 2-1) also got seven points from Gracey Meyer, six from Paige Holmes, five from Brynley Fitzgerald and four apiece from Shainy Mack and Mesa King. Holmes grabbed 10 rebounds, one more than King.

Former Columbia Falls Wildkat Kiara Burlage tossed in 13 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Warriors (9-4, 1-2), who saw three players reach double figures. Jansen Edmiston scored 12 points, and Peyton Souvenir scored 11.

The defending NAIA national champion Bulldogs will host Montana Tech Saturday night.
