BHS Soccer Purple and White Scrimmage
On Friday night Butte High boys’ soccer coach, Cody Carpenter, was very pleased watching the way his team, led by senior captains, Riley Doyle and Zane Fredlund, played at the Purple vs. White scrimmage. He said, “We emphasize across our program that we are a family and that’s how it looked on the field to me today.” Coach Carpenter and his team were very excited to be playing at Naranche Stadium again stating, “The last time we played on Naranche, our current seniors were freshmen. It was fun to be back.”
The change in atmosphere, fast turf and an excited crowd right at the high school, proved to be a boost for both the varsity and JV teams. The varsity team had been challenged to see how quickly they could score three goals on the JV team. It took them about seven minutes which made Carpenter happy. Goalie, and Bulldog kicker, Joe Schrader, was moved from his usual position and proved he is a threat facing the goal as well, scoring a point for his team. After the varsity challenge the teams were balanced out with varsity and JV players and the final score of the game was 4 – 3.
The boys’ soccer roster includes 10 seniors this year. Those seniors will spend the season as mentors to the other 21 players on the roster, setting the team up for a successful future. The boys play their first regular season game this Thursday, traveling to Missoula to challenge Hellgate High School.
