Berger flick sends BC girls over Corvallis

Jaeden Berger singled home Brooke Badovinac with the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Butte Central defeated Corvallis 10-9 in a Southwestern A Conference high school girls’ softball game Tuesday at Stodden Park.
Butte Central entered the bottom of the sixth with Corvallis holding a 9-8 edge. Kathryn Lalicker drew a two-out walk and rode home on a triple by Badovinac with the tying run. Berger then singled Badovinac home with what proved to be the winning run. Renee Creek more reached base safely on a single for the Maroons before the team was retired on a groundout.
Corvallis came to bat in the top of the seventh and got a one-out walk from Jadyn Greenwood. An out later, Makaia McEwen reached base on a droppd third strike. Kaitlin McCartney was then called out and Butte Central had its first conference win of the season.
Hattie Mehring pitched the win for the BC girls while Badovinac and Berger each drove in three runs. Badovinac tripled and slugged her sixth home run of the year. Lalicker collected three hits, including a double, Berger also had a double in two hits, and Mehring knocked in a run with a single.
Emma Cashell and Sophie Cooper smacked doubles for the Blue Devils.
The win lifted Butte Central’s records to 2-8 for the season and 1-6 in conference while Corvallis fell to 5-6 and 3-4. Their previous clash in Corvallis last month saw Corvallis outscore the Maroons 16-12.
