Berg earns special teams honor

Montana Tech kicker Matt Berg was named Frontier Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Berg, a redshirt freshman captain from Butte, was 2 for 2 in field goals in the No. 13-ranked Orediggers He also kicked five extra points, booted a 70-yard kickoff.

Also nominated for the award was Colin Amsler of Southern Oregon.

Montana Tech freshman receiver was nominated for Offensive Player of the Week after catching two touchdown passes. Junior defensive lineman Mike Waldman was nominated for the top defensive award.

Offensive Player of the Week: Austin Dodge, Southern Oregon, 6-foot-2, 205-pound

sophomore quarterback from Vancouver, Wash. In addition to his Frontier honors,

Dodge was also named the NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week. In Southern

Oregon’s 68-22 upset win over No. 24 Eastern Oregon, Dodge was 23 of 30 passing for

468 yards and five touchdowns, all in the first half. He had the fourth most passing yards

in a single game in Southern Oregon history.

Defensive Player of the Week: Marquice O’Leary, Southern Oregon, 5-foot-10, 185-pound, freshman linebacker, from Fontana, Calif. In Southern Oregon’s 68-22 victory

over No. 24 Eastern Oregon, Frank had six solo tackles, two assisted tackles, one tackle for

loss of three yards, one interception and one pass break up.
