Benson ties for 14th at Corban Spring Invite

SALEM, Oregon — Montana Tech senior Sean Benson tied for 14th place at the Corban Spring Invitational at the Creekside Golf Club.

The tournament concluded Tuesday with the end of the rain-delayed second round and the third round.

Benson followed a first-round 71 on the par-70 course with a 72 and a 74 for a 7-over 217 total. He tied with Chris Carew of the College of Idaho and John Holzgang of Northwest Christian.

Mayson Tibbs of Oregon Tech and Ethan DeGraff of British Columbia tied for first at 206.

British Columbia’s Andrjez Wierzba (207), Andrew Harrison (208), Zahidali Nathu (209) and Christopher Horton (209) were next on the leaderboard as their team ran away with the team title at 832. That is 8 under par.

Oregon Tech was second at 846. Montana Tech’s men placed ninth at 907. The Orediggers followed a 296 with a 306 and a 305.

Sean Ramsbacher tied for 43rd at 229. He shot 79-79 after an opening-round 71. Trey Hoagland followed a 79 with a 75 and a 76 for a 230 and 46th place at 230.

Also for Tech, Jimmy finished at 235, and Bridger Martin carded a 240.

On the women’s side, the Orediggers placed eighth at 746. Tech improved six shots for a final-round 370.

Lynzee Dexter tied for 30th with a 176 for the Orediggers. Tanna Campbell followed with a 184 for Tech, while Hailey Ogolin hit 190, and Kelsey Parker and Ashton McCloskey each shot 197.

British Columbia won the team title at 591. Oregon Tech was second at 615, followed by Rocky Mountain College at 632.

Esther Lee of British Columbia followed a 70 with an even-par 72 for a 142 and medalist honors. She beat teammate Kate Johnson by one shot.

The Orediggers will play at the Frontier Conference Tournament next Monday through Wednesday in Phoenix.
