Benson misses NAIA cut

MESA, Ariz. — Sean Benson’s collegiate golf career came to a disappointing end Wednesday at a windy Las Sendas Golf Club.

The Montana Tech senior followed a first-round 78 with a 80 Tuesday, missing the cut at the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship.

The top 37 players made the cut. (Results)

The tournament comes a little more than a month after Benson became the first Oredigger golfer to win the Frontier Conference title.

“I’m super proud of him,” Tech interim coach Sean Ryan said of Benson, who will help coach the Orediggers next season. “It was a tough couple of days in which he got a bit unlucky and couldn’t get any putts to drop.”

Ben Hadden of Kansas Wesleyan leads the tournament at 4 under par halfway through. He holds a two-shot lead over Victor Miron of Texas Wesleyan.
