Bengals stop cold-shooting Maroons

HELENA — Meg Murphy called her team’s performance “ugly.” The stat line backed up the Butte Central girls’ basketball coach’s assessment.

The Maroons, the No. 2 team in the Class A, made 15 of 55 shots from the field, and Butte Central fell 39-34 at Helena High in a non-conference game. The win was Class AA Helena’s first in eight tries.

Regan Fruh and Callie Kanthack both scored eight points to lead the Bengals.

Danee Leary and Mariah Cooney both scored 12 points to lead the Maroons. Hannah Stajcar scored four, while Alysea Pica, Annie Ossello and Danika Neumann each scored two.
