Beavers pull away from Locomotives

MISSOULA — The Dillon Beavers used a fourth-quarter run to pull away from the Laurel Locomotives and post a 69-57 victory Thursday at the Class A State boys’ basketball tournament at Dahlberg Arena. Stat sheet

The game was a rematch of last year’s state championship game, which was won by Laurel.

Dillon improves to 20-2 on the season, and the Maroons will play Hardin, which beat Butte Central, in Friday’s 8 p.m. semifinal.

The Locomotives (11-12) will battle the Maroons at 2 p.m. in a loser-out game.

Nate Simkins scored 18 points to lead the Dillon attack that saw three score in double figures and seven players score overall.

Troy Anderson added 15 points, while Tanner Haverfield poured in 12. Dillon also got eight from Payton Lafrentz, six from Carson Hritsco and Michael Haverfield and four from Nick Huber.

Christian Jones scored 16 to lead Laurel. Casey Cole joined him in double figures with 10.
