Beavers knock off Maroons in Dillon

DILLON — Dillon’s hot bats cooled down Butte Central Thursday evening.

The Beavers pounded 12 hits and beat Butte Central 11-6 in a Southwestern A softball game. The win was the first for the Beavers over the Maroons in the history of their varsity program.

Bailey Berriochoa went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Beavers, who jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings.

Kimee Hritsco-Marray and Lauren Holtan each had a two-hit day for the Beavers. Holton, Brandi Lovaas joined Berriochoa with two runs batted in.

The Maroons were without ace Teresa Piazzola, who re-aggravated a back injury last weekend. She is scheduled to undergo an MRI next week. Kloie Thatcher and McKenzie Gallagher pitched for the Maroons.

Shawnee Hjelt and Corby Holm each hit a double and a triple to lead Butte Central’s offense. Emily St. John, Thatcher and Gallagher each added a single. Hjelt, St. John, Holm, Mollie Peoples and Kassidy Criscuolo each drove in a run.

The Maroons will look to bounce back from the tough loss Friday when they play host Anaconda in a 5 p.m. game at Stodden Park.
