Beavers hand Central boys first loss of season

DILLON — Dillon opened the second half with a 14-0 run, and the Beavers handed Butte Central’s boys’ basketball team its first loss of the season Thursday night at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium.

The Beavers outscored the Maroons 42-25 in the second half in the 74-57 victory, which is the sixth straight for Dillon. The win avenged a 56-42 Dec. 18 loss in Butte.

Dillon’s run to open the third quarter came after the Beavers used an 11-0 run to tie the game at 32 at the half.

Connor Curnow poured in 25 points to lead the Beavers, who improved to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the Southwestern A.

Callahan Hoffman, a 6-foot-8 senior, added 18 points in the win. Dillon also got seven points from Caden Hansen, Eli Nourse and Jonathan Kirkley. Kee Christianson and Max Davis each scored four points, and Tyler Lagunas tossed in two.

Dougie Peoples sank four 3-pionters and scored 21 points to lead the Maroons (8-1, 5-1). Kyle Holter scored 13 points before fouling out, and Eric Loos contributed with 12.

BC got four points from Drew Badovinac and three from Bryson Sestrich, who returned after missing time with a thumb injury. Joseph Sehulster and Zane Moodry also contributed for the Maroons.

Central has another huge game Saturday when the Maroons play host to Hamilton at the Maroon Activities Center. That game is part of a girls-boys doubleheader.
