Beavers deny Maroons in four-set conference match

DILLON — The Dillon Beavers completed the season sweep of Butte Central Thursday night with a four-set Southwestern A volleyball victory at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium.

The Beavers won the match 25-23, 25-13, 15-25, 25-21.

“We did not hit well tonight, our block was off and Dillon took full advantage of that,” Butte High coach Becky Hancock said. “We can’t be relying on one hitter to put the ball away. We need to start playing more consistently as a team.”

Corbyn Holm pounded 14 of Butte Central’s 27 kills on the night. Emily St. John dished up 23 assists to go along with a team-high 14 digs. Molly Peoples (13), Holm (12) and Taylor Wahl (11) also reached double figures in digs. Samantha Burton dug nine, and Zoe Sullivan collected seven.

Peoples also served four aces as the Maroons hung with the hard-hitting Beavers most of the way.

“Each game except for the third, we got off to slow starts, let Dillon go on runs and then tried to climb our way back in,” Hancock said. “We need to be better at getting after it right away.”

The Maroons are back in action Saturday when they play host to Hamilton in a 4 p.m. match at the Maroon Activities Center.

“Things weren’t there for us tonight,” Hancock said. “Now we have to pick ourselves up and keep moving forward.”
