Bears use late surge to hold off Oredigger women

BILLINGS — Rocky Mountain College’s women’s basketball team outscored Montana Tech 21-9 in the fourth quarter Saturday night, and the No. 17 Battlin’ Bears held off Montana Tech for a 74-53 Frontier Conference victory at the Fortin Center. (Stats)

Alecia Chamberlin scored 17 points to lead four Bears in double figures in the win. Justyn Juhl scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Kloie Thatcher and Markaela Francis each tossed in 13 points.

The game marked the eighth time during her freshman campaign that Thatcher, a Butte Central graduate, reached double figures.

Rocky improved to 6-2 in league play and 15-5 overall.

True freshman Dani Urick scored 16 points to lead three Tech players in double digits. Kaylee Zard score 11 points, while Mesa Williams tossed in 10.

The Orediggers (1-7, 11-8) also got six points form Tjaden Pallister, four from Mollie Peoples and Lana Berg and two from Jaime Berg.

Tech will play at home against the University of Providence and MSU-Northern next Friday and Saturday.
