BC’s Tricia Joyce wins third straight tournament

DILLON — The field was small, but the performance of Butte Central’s Tricia Joyce certainly was not Friday at the Dillon Invitational.

The freshman golfer fired an 84 at a cool Beaverhead Golf Course to claim her third tournament title in a row. Sydni Rose of Hamilton was a distant second at 91.

After placing second in the season-opening Butte Central Invitational, Joyce, who followed a 43 on the front nine with a 41, won the Park Invitational and the Belgrade Invitational before topping the field on Friday.

BC sophomore Tyge Yelenich had a pretty big day, too.

The sophomore shot a 76 to place second in the tournament, marking his fourth top 5 showing in as many tournaments. He has two tournament titles on the season. Yelenich opened with a 39 and closed with a 37.

Hamilton’s Max Toenjes shot 37-34 for a 1-under-par 71 and boys’ medalist honors. Teammate Josh Heath placed third at 77 as Hamilton topped the team standings at 310. Livingston placed second at 345, followed by BC at third at 346.

Cameron Johnson shot an 88 for the Maroons. Tyler Kump shot 89, while Sam Joyce shot 93 and Bryan Arnold hit 102.

Livingston won the girls’ team title at 452. Dillon placed second at 460, followed by Hamilton at 470. Just three girls’ teams had enough golfers for a team score.

Next up for the Maroons is a tournament next week at the Old Works and Butte Country Club.
