GREAT FALLS — Butte Central sophomore Brian McGeehan ran to 23rd place Saturday at the State cross country meet.
McGeehan ran the 3-mile course at the Eagle Falls Golf Course in 16 minutes, 51 seconds to finish in the top 25 in the Class A meet. That was the best time of the runners from the Mining City who competed. Results
“He ran like crazy,” Butte Central coach Bob Johnson said. “He will be up with the big boys at the top next year.”
Cameron Mieckle of Hamilton won the race in 15:26. Corvallis won the team title, while the Maroons, who had just five runners, took 18th.
Zach Carlson finished in 18:39 for the Maroons, while Theron Nelson Crossed in 19:00. Nathan Ortega (19:59) and Ian Campbell (20:31) also ran for the Maroons.
Abby McGee finished the girls’ race in 22:25.
Austin Gerry led the Butte High boys with a time of 17:33 as the Bulldogs took 13th. Bozeman won the boys’ team title.
Jake Perrin of Kalispell Flathead won the race in a blazing 14:47, beating last year’s champ, Aidan Reed of Helena High, by 10 seconds.
Shannon Tempel finished in 17:55 for the Bulldogs, while Nic Raiser crossed in 18:00 and Erik Casagranda clocked in at 18:08.
Seth Grant (18:13.63) edged teammate Kyle Konda (18:13.66) by an eyelash. Gunther Clark (18:37) also broke 19 minutes for Butte High.
Joby Rosenleaf paced the Butte High girls, finishing in 20:12. Bozeman won the team title, while Butte High finished 14th.
Annie Hill of Kalispell Glacier won the race in 16:30.
Cati Carmody crossed in 20:59 for Butte High. Abby Burke (22:32), Rosie Real (22:38), Maya Robins (24:23), Sheridan Hafer (24:47) and Haley Mellott (25:10) also ran for the Bulldogs.
Butte High’s Sydney Pendergast missed the meet with an injury.
Boulder senior A.J. Eckmann, who was the subject of a ButteSports.com feature story this week, placed fourth in the Class B boys’ race in 16:07. He placed fifth last year.
The top 15 runners earn All-State honors.
