BC’s McGeehan 9th, McGee 14th in first cross country meet

LIVINGSTON — Butte Central’s cross country team got off to a strong start to the season Friday.

Sophomore Brian McGeehan and junior Abby McGee led the way for the Maroons. McGeehan finished the 3-mile race in 18 minutes, 11 seconds. That was good for ninth place overall on the boys’ side.

McGee, BC’s lone girl runner, finished in 23:12 and took 14th overall on the girls’ side.

Sophomore Theron Nelson placed 30th in 20:09, while BC’s two freshmen didn’t finish far behind. Zach Nelson took 33rd at 20:18, while fellow freshman Cade Wyatt took 41st at 20:54.

Junior Ian Campbell and sophomore Nathan Ortega didn’t have 10 official practices in, so they couldn’t race.

“They all ran great for the first meet and training conditions they have had,” BC coach Bob Johnson said.

The Maroons are back in action Tuesday when they host the Butte Central Invitational on the golf course at Fairmont Hot Springs.
