BC’s McGee runs to fourth in opener

LIVINGSTON — Butte Central senior Conor McGee ran to fourth place at the Maroons’ season-opening meet Friday.

McGee finished the 3-mile course in 17 minutes, 14 seconds. He was the fastest BC runner on a day filled with promising signs for the Maroons.

Jonathan Eastwood of Belgrade won the race in 15:55.

Freshman Brian McGeehan opened his prep running career in memorable fashion. He broke the 20-minute mark and placed 37th with a time of 19:24. Senior Clay Stillwagon took 56th in 22:55. Sophomore Ian Campbell placed 60th in 25:36.

Freshman Theron Nelson had to run junior varsity because he didn’t have enough practices to compete at the varsity level. He placed third in the JV race in 20:12.

Abby McGee, a sophomore, placed 33rd at 23:51. She is the lone BC girl running varsity.

The Maroons also sent a handful of middle school runners, who competed in a 1.6-mile race.

BC’s Cade Wyatt won the boys’ title in 9:59. Fellow Maroon Shelby Walls won the girls’ race in 11:56.

Also, Lindsay McGree of Butte Central placed third at 12:28, while Shea Davis took ninth at 15:35.

“They ran very well today,” BC coach Bob Johnson said.

The Maroons will host the Butte Central Invitational Tuesday at Fairmont Hot Springs.

Full results from Friday’s meet will be posted if they become available.
