LAUREL — Marcus Ferriter is a State Champion.
On the final day of his stellar Butte Central athletic career, Ferriter launched the discus 157 feet, 3 inches to claim the title at the Class A State meet. He registered a throw 161 feet in the preliminaries.
The championship came one day after Ferriter, a future Montana State football player, placed second in the shot put.
Ferriter wasn’t the only Maroon to reach the podium on the final day of the tournament.
Sophomore Rachael McGree placed second in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the triple jump. McGree, who took second in Friday’s long jump, finished the hurdles in 15.11 seconds. Dillon star Holly Andersen won in 14.86. McGree jumped 34 feet, 7 inches in the triple jump.
Another BC sophomore named McGree had a big day, too. Nate McGree placed fourth in the triple jump, leaping 41 feet 8 ½ inches.
Also Friday, BC’s Kyle Harrington placed ninth in the 100-meter race. Teammate Blake Burton took 10th. Abby McGree took 20th in the 800-meter run.
On Friday, Maroon Michael Cooney took fourth in the high jump.
Corvallis swept the team titles. The Blue Devils scored 74 points to win the boys’ race. BC tallied 26 points.
On the girls’ side, Corvallis scored 102. The Maroons notched 18.
