BC’s Fisher reaches semis

COLUMBIA FALLS — Butte Central junior 126-pound wrestlers Clay Fisher reached the semifinals of the Western A Divisional tournament Friday.

After a first-round bye, Fisher, the state Class A runner up a year ago, pinned John Warner of Frenchtown in 1 minute, 16 seconds in the quarterfinals. He’ll take on Corvallis’ Dante Venema in Saturday’s semifinal match.

Fisher has already secured a trip to next week’s state tournament in Billings.

At 103 pounds, Butte Central senior Roy Russell is still fighting in the consolation round after falling to Mason Coweell of Polson in the quarterfinals. Even though he lost his lone match of the day, byes in consolation round mean Russell is secured a spot in the top eight of the 10-person bracket. So he’ll join Fisher at state.

BC freshman Cade Stillwagon saw his season come to an end at 138 pounds. He picked up a win to advance to the quarter finals before dropping his next two matches.

Stillwagon fell 5-2 to Randon Weidow of Corvallis in a match that sent the winner to state.
