BC Volleyball Digs 5 Set Win in Corvallis

By Ron Davis

The Butte Central Maroon Volleyball team made a Saturday afternoon trip to Corvallis for a Southwestern A Conference match with the Blue Devils.  Central made the trip pay off with a 3-2 win 25-18, 25-12, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11, to take their overall record to 6-4

“We were able to hang in there tonight for the win.” Coach Hancock added, “Corvallis’s defense came alive in the last 3 games, & I felt that took us out of our game. We got rattled, & made too many unforced errors to keep in the 3rd & 4th games.”

The Maroons rallied and fought to the finish. “I liked our fight in the end. We played point for point up until about 8 points, where we took the lead & were able to close the 5th game out.”

In Saturdays match the Maroon victory came from the back row defense as 5 girls combined for 85 digs.  Hattie Mehring led the way with 19, Maycee Anderson 16, Molly Drew 15, Ella Moodry and Mia Keeley both with 13.  Keeley also added 4 ace serves in the victory.

Brooke Badovinac was a force at the net putting down 13 kills off of 20 Keeley sets.

“A win is a win, but our overall games needs to become more consistent from start to finish, with everything team we play”.

The Maroons will have plenty opportunities to work on consistence next weekend as they host the Blocltober Classic tournament Friday and Saturday.
