BC tennis teams sweep Rangers, Copperheads

LIVINGSTON — Butte Central’s tennis teams finally opened the season Saturday, and the Maroons have to be happy with the results.

Butte Central swept Anaconda and Livingston in matches that were moved east because the courts in Butte and Anaconda are not yet ready for competition.

BC’s boys beat Livingston 4-3 and Anaconda 5-0. The Maroon girls downed Livingston 4-3. They took advantage of five forfeits for a 7-0 win over Anaconda.

All games started at 2-2 to speed up play

“We had a good showing today,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “I really liked what a saw. There are definitely areas of our game that need some fine tuning and more consistency, but that all comes with time. I mean for only being able to practice outside twice before this meet, both sides displayed some strong play and showed promising potential. It was good to finally get the kids out and playing.”

David Granell picked up a singles wins for the Maroons against Livingston. BC swept the doubles.

Guido Ossello and Aidan Petritz won in straight sets at No. 1. Max Drew and John Fisher did the same at No. 3, while Drew Badovinac and Gage Guldseth won in straight sets at No. 3.

Ossello also won a singles match, but that counted as a forfeit win for Livingston because he already played doubles.

Granell and Bryson Sestrich won singles matches against the Copperheads, while the same doubles teams rolled to straight-set wins.

Against Livingston, the BC girls got singles wins from Shea Davis and Sage Wall. Delaney Hasquet and Avery Kelly won a doubles match in two games, as did Marissa Anderson and Mati McGree.

Tricia Joyce and Sophia Burton won singles matches against the Copperheads. The rest of the wins came via forfeit.

The Maroons will go to Bozeman Tuesday to take on the Hawks’ junior varsity team.
