BC tennis players face Pirates at State

Four members of the Butte Central boys’ tennis team will be in Polson and Ronan Thursday and Friday for the Class A State tennis tournament.

The opening round pits each BC player against a member of the host Polson team. The Pirates enter as the Northwestern A champions. The Maroons placed second in the Southwestern A.

Frank and Jim Joyce, the BC doubles team that placed second at last week’s Southwestern A Divisional tournament in Hamilton, will play Tyler Dupuis and Sam Kinzel of Polson in the first round. Dupuis and Kinzel placed third at the Northwestern A Divisional last week.

The winner of that match will play John Knisely and Harrison Fagg of Billings Central or Andy Butcher and Austin Songer of Lewistown.

In singles play, BC’s Northey Tretheway enters as the No. 3 seed from the Southwestern A. Tretheway beat Maroon teammate Kale Guldseth in the third-place match on Saturday.

Tretheway will battle Polson’s Brady Hislop in the first round. The winner takes on Nathan Sickler of Glendive or Jeff Miller of Havre.

Guldseth takes on Dylan McGrumb of Polson in the opening round. McGrumb beat Hislop 6-2, 6-4 in the Northwestern A title match. A Guldseth win and he will player the winner of the match between Hadyn Pettersen of Glendive and Andrew Buno of Lewistown.
