BC season ends in Corvallis

CORVALLIS — For the first just the third time this century, Butte Central will not play in the Class A football playoffs.

Liang Liedle ran for four touchdowns, and Hunter Pinheiro ran for three more Friday night, as Corvallis stormed back from an early deficit to knock off Butte Central 52-32 in a wild Southwestern A battle.

The win sends the Blue Devils to the playoffs. BC’s season comes to an end.

The Maroons will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and second time since 2001.

“We just couldn’t stop their offense,” Butte Central coach Don Peoples Jr. said. “Pinheiro was a man child running over the top of us.”

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Pinhero ran 26 times for 168 yards. Liedle ran 20 times for 134 yards as the Blue Devils racked up 316 yards on the ground.

Senior Clay Fisher ran for 123 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Maroons. He scored on a pair of 5-yard runs to give the Maroons a 13-point lead in the first quarter.

After Pinheiro punched in a score early in the second, Fisher scored from six-yards out to put the Maroons up 20-8.

The Blue Devils though, outscored BC 22-6 to close out the first half, with a 24-yard strike from Cade Holter to Luke Jensen accounting for BC’s lone score in that stretch, for a 30-26 halftime lead.

Corvallis closed out the win in the second half.

Holter passed for 133 yards and ran for 113 before leaving the game in the second half with a back injury.

“We only punted once,” Peoples said. “They really didn’t stop us, either. We had a tremendous offensive game. We had it in the red zone a couple of times but we didn’t finish the drives.

“They had long, methodical drives, and we couldn’t stop them.”

The Maroons close the injury-plagued season at 3-6 overall and 1-4 in league play. The Blue Devils are 5-4 and 2-3.

The loss closes the prep football career for BC seniors Fisher, Jensen, Holter, Seth Gardner, Tyler Duhame, Kaden Sehulster and Aidan Petritz.
