BC qualifies a few at divisionals

CORVALLIS  — Butte Central qualified three individuals to Class A State tournament Friday at the rainy Southwestern A divisional tournament.

The Butte Central girls scored 22 team points and are tied for fourth place with Anaconda in the team standings. Corvallis is blowing away the field with 128.5 points. Dillon is a distant second at 45.

Butte Central’s Mariah Cooney qualified for State during the regular season in the long jump, triple jump and javelin. Friday, she placed second in the long jump and third in the javelin.

Cooney also added a spot in state as a leg on the 400-meter relay team. The Maroons placed fourth in that even. Whitney, Lacey and Cassidy McGree ran the other leg in the qualifier.

Mollie McIntyre qualified for State by placing fourth in the long jump.

On the boys’ side, the Maroons didn’t have any athletes who reached qualifying standards in the season. Friday, BC qualified the 400-meter relay team along with Marcus Ferriter and Cole Harper.

Ferriter placed third in the shot put, while Harper placed fifth in the long jump.

Harper also ran a leg of the qualifying relay team. Connor McGree, Kyle Harrington and Sean Cooney ran the other three legs.

The Dillon boys are leading the team standings with 77 points. Hamilton is second with 54. The Maroons scored 10 points.

The meet concludes Saturday. The top five individuals advance in each event.
