BC prepared to host Southwestern A tennis

Butte Central will host the Southwestern A Divisional tennis tournament — as soon as the courts dry.

Play for the three-day tournament is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. today, and 92 matches will be played on three courts around town. Tournament officials cleared the courts after the heavy snowfall on Wednesday. They’ll be evaluated this morning.

All girls’ matches will be played at Stodden Park, while boys’ doubles matches will take place at Father Sheehan Park. The courts at West Elementary School will host the boys’ singles matches.

Juniors Hunter Hartwick, Noah McGee, Logan Harrington and Tash Lester will play singles for the BC boys. Junior Cameron Johnson and freshman Guido Ossello will look to continue their strong season in doubles for the Maroons.

Senior Sam Johnston will team with sophomore Aidan Petritz, while junior Shane Callahan will play with classmate Colby Kline. Junior Tyge Yelenich is an alternate.

On the girls’ side, juniors Zoe Sullivan, Samantha Burton and Savannah Healy will play singles for the Maroons. Senior Emily St. John and sophomore Tricia Joyce lead the BC doubles teams.

Sophomore Shea Davis will play with classmate Prestynn Weldon, and freshman Tess Riordan will go to battle with classmate Sophie Sullivan.

Play will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday. Action will continue each day as long as daylight allows.
